A closer view of the recessed entrance of the Adamson house reveals the random porch paving consisting of varicolored bits of broken tile, as well as the massive front door of teak with its four Bavarian bottle-glass lites. The ribbed underside of the cast-stone lintel leads the eye to the entrance, while the lavish application of decorative tile to either side provides a hint of things to come. Architect Stiles Clements made thematic use of the arched motif in the home’s design; the gentle arch above the entrance is echoed in the repeating vaults of the projecting floor above, as well as in the curved face of the porch steps.
