Description :

The diagonal fireplace in the dining room of the Hamilton house provides a strong focal point without consuming appreciable wall space. The small niche lit by a stained-glass window occupies leftover space under a staircase--a typically quirky touch of the period. Wall sconces such as the one seen here are ubiquitous in dining rooms of the 1920s, and were equally common in living rooms and halls. The wrought-iron chandelier slung on chains is an exceptionally robust version of a Spanish Revival staple.
