Description :
|
The florid decoration of the Castro’s auditorium is typical of the era’s theaters, whether Spanish Revival, Beaux-Arts, or exotic. The room’s seemingly monumental interior walls are in fact merely a thin, nonstructural shell of plaster cast onto a light armature of mesh-covered metal bars. Various painted finishes imitating gilt, marble, or wood could be applied to this substrate, creating a remarkably opulent effect at minimal cost.
