A stout pylon decorated with tile anchors the shed-roofed porte-cochere in this South Carthay home, designed by Spyros Ponti and built in 1932. The three-sided bay window with its trademark leaded glass panes appears almost Tudor in this example; other homes feature similar windows with round or segmental arches, or deeply recessed versions with heavy stuccoed hoods above. Thanks to the consistent excellence of its Spanish Revival homes, the South Carthay district has been included among a mere handful of designated historic districts in Los Angeles.
