Swiss-born architect Josias Joesler designed the arcaded courtyard of St. Philips in the Hills Church in Tucson, Arizona. Joesler’s creation, which was constructed in 1936, is reminiscent of eighteenth-century mission churches in California and the Southwest and is among the architect’s finest works. The courtyard contains a small pool, with tile pathways that connect the arcades. Much of the timeless beauty of the Spanish Revival style comes from its simple palette of materials: clay, wood and cement. |
