The enormous living room of the William S. Hart residence dwarfs even the grand piano seen at background. Some of Hart’s collection of Navajo textiles can be glimpsed throughout the room, along with artwork and artifacts relating to the Old West. Overhead, stencil-painted Native American motifs cover the tie beams of the vaulted ceiling. Hart was the sole private owner of La Loma de los Vientos; when he died in 1946, his will stipulated that the house and ranch property be left to the County of Los Angeles for use as a museum and public park. Much of Hart’s extensive collection of Western memorabilia remains on display throughout the house.
