Chi-Rho
Scholars say the Chi-Rho (XP) symbol is the oldest Christian symbol. Chi and Rho are the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ When the two letters are overlaid they form a cross-like design. Reversing the letters to PX is said to be an abbreviation of the Latin word PAX, which means “peace.”
When Constantine defeated Maxentius in A.D 312 he replaced the eagle with the Christian Chi-Rho on the Roman standards, which certainly solidified the Chi-Rho as the dominant Christian symbol. But, the Christians did not invent the Chi-Rho monogram. Chi and Rho are also the first two letters of the Greek word chrestos, meaning “auspicious,” and the letters confined in a circle were a Chaldean solar symbol. Furthermore, it is also an abbreviation of the Greek word chreston, meaning “good omen” or “good thing,” and the Chi-Rho letters were used to signify that event.
Pax
Pax is simply the Latin word for peace. Despite the short length of the word, it is sometimes abbreviated to PX
