Chapel of the Chimes Columbarium
Oakland, California
Cast concrete Gothic arches frame the Frances Willard atrium in the Chapel of the Chimes. Frances Willard was an early leader of women’s rights and was the first woman to publicly endorse cremation.
Franking the atrium are small rooms known as chapels. Each chapel entry is decorated with a bronze plaque with an inspirational quotation. The stained glass ceiling was designed and constructed by Marian Simpson of Berkeley, California.
