Roger Memorial
Forest Lawn Cemetery
Buffalo, New York
The waif-like figure, “Aspiration”, graces the Roger Memorial. Aspiration was crafted in bronze by Harriet Whitney Frishmuth. Frishmuth (1880-1979) had a long and productive career in the arts, receiving numerous awards and commissions. Her sculptures are in the collections of many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Los Angeles Museum of Art. In 1900 she studied sculpture in Paris, first as a student of Rodin and then of Gauquier and Injalbert. In 1913 she began her series of lyrical figures, including Aspiration, which she sculpted in 1926 in an edition of 3. |
